Oikocredit is a cooperative of like-minded investors that focus on social impact over return. Oikocredit provides a vehicle that wish to invest in developing countries to help people in these countries develop a life of dignity. The capital of these investors is raised in Western Europe primarily, but also via a global network of members and other propositions (e.g. donations). The mandate of the Investor Relations and Capital Raising unit is to raise and retain capital for investments and capacity building, by:
- Building connections with prospective investors and managing the relationship via marketing channels, and direct networks
- Create an engaged investor community, through communication and opportunities for interaction
- Developing products and propositions based on investor needs and wishes
- Selling participations to investors
- Raising grants from donors
- Educating investors and others to invest responsibly
Job Purpose
Oikocredit urgently needs to address two issues in its capital raising domain. Firstly, developing propositions that facilitate wealth transfer from ageing investors (that currently hold 28% of investor capital) to either legacy investment funds or to next generations of investors. Secondly, find new (types of) investors to replace the current, ageing investor base. Oikocredit needs to increase the assets under management to a healthier 1.8 – 2,0 billion Euros without increasing the operational cost at the same rate.
The purpose of this role is to help develop new viable and compliant investment products and propositions for investors. To develop compliant retail and institutional products for specific markets that Oikocredit wishes to enter. To maintain of the existing product and the development and implementation of proposition i.e., managing the annual renewal of the prospectus, and periodical renewal of relevant labels (e.g., ESUS, tax-label BE). Thus, enabling the Marketing and Sales units to effectively raise capital and retain capital.
Main responsibilities
In collaboration with Marketing, Finance, Investments, Legal & compliance, and Operations:
- Maintain the compliancy status of current propositions and products
- Support product lifecycles from ideation, to launch, to post launch evaluation by:
- Translating Commercial Propositions: Work closely with our Investor Relations and Marketing teams to translate innovative ideas into tangible financial products, ensuring they are legally sound and market-ready.
- Drafting Legal Documents: Prepare and review all necessary legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and disclosures, to support the development and launch of new products.
- Organizing Legal Implications: Identify and address the legal implications of new financial products, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
- Setting Governance Structures: Establish and maintain governance frameworks to oversee the development and implementation of new products, ensuring robust risk management and accountability.
- Ensuring Compliance: Navigate complex regulatory landscapes to ensure all products comply with legal and regulatory standards.
- Mitigating Risks: Identify and mitigate potential legal risks associated with new products, protecting our organization and investors.
- Strategic Guidance: Provide strategic legal advice to support product development and capital-raising efforts.
- Tracking and analyse the performance of newly developed capital raising products, gather clients feedback, and continuously improve the products.
Education, skills and experience
- A legal professional with a strong background in financial law and regulations.
- Skilled in translating commercial propositions into legally sound financial products.
- Experienced in drafting and reviewing legal documents.
- Proficient in organizing and addressing legal implications, including setting governance structures.
- A strategic thinker with the ability to balance innovation with compliance.
- An excellent communicator who can translate complex legal concepts into actionable insights.
- A proactive problem-solver with a keen eye for detail and risk management.
- Good understanding of capital raising.
- Understanding of Dutch and international regulatory requirements or willingness to learn.
- Excellent customer orientation, commercial mind-set.
- Good analytical skills.
- Hands-on mentality.
- Fluency in English.
