Head of Regional Impact Investment
Oikocredit is seeking a senior manager to oversee our impact-driven debt investment portfolio. This role requires a strategic vision to balance financial returns with social impact.
Reporting to: Chief Impact Investment Officer
Direct reports: Regional Heads of Africa, SEA, LAC (South America) and LAC (MCAC)
Key result areas of the unit
- Develop and implement a financial inclusion strategy
- Oversee the end-to-end management of the Financial Inclusion and Agriculture debt investment portfolio, ensuring quality and performance meet established KPIs.
- Build and sustain strategic global and regional partnerships within designated markets amongst other for the Community Focused Approach portfolio.
- Drive social impact while balancing financial returns and manageable risks.
- Identify and lead development and implementation of process improvements, including straight through processing.
- Manage a regionally/centralized account management for new banking portfolios
- Ensure full compliance with investment mandates, local laws, regulations, and Oikocredit’s policies and guidelines.
- Monitor regional and country-specific political and economic developments, providing informed advice to internal and external stakeholders.
Job purpose
Lead the regions to manage a high-performing, impact-driven debt investment portfolio, totalling € 500 million. Ensure alignment with Oikocredit’s mission by balancing financial returns with social impact, building partnerships, and ensuring compliance across diverse regional contexts.
Result areas of the job
- Strategic Planning and Realising Results: Define vision and strategy for financial inclusion and facilitate the execution of plans. Reflect on results and adapt strategies for optimal performance. Collaborate with specialised units to develop and implement Community Focussed Approach Partnerships, Climate and community resilience investments and Capacity Building projects as well as the Client Self Perception survey and interventions to improve the social performance of partners.
- Portfolio Performance and Quality: Oversee development and monitoring of the Financial Inclusion and agri portfolio, ensuring quality, growth, and adherence to KPIs. Implement operational efficiencies, including Straight Through Processing and centralized account management for the banking portfolio.
- Collaboration and Cross-Unit Alignment: Promote collaboration across units to share insights and best practices, to build on innovative ideas and partnerships, and to work together on efficient and seamless processes and workflows. Promote a culture of teamwork and shared accountability within the unit and across the organization.
- Development and Stakeholder Engagement: Foster strategic regional partnerships to support investment objectives and amplify social impact. Represent Oikocredit to external stakeholders, advocating for its mission and impact.
- Risk and Compliance Management: Ensure investments adhere to local and international regulations, as well as internal policies. Actively manage risks to align with Oikocredit’s tolerance and objectives.
- Regional-, sector-, and country specific Insight: Monitor trends and developments, offering actionable insights to stakeholders.
- Leadership and people management: Cultivate an enabling and engaging work climate, fostering team collaboration and growth. Ensure the right talent is in place, with clear development paths and performance management systems.
- Communication and representation: represent Oikocredit on international fora as a thought leader and innovator on social impact investment.
Education, skills and experience
- Masters degree in Development Economics, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 10-15 years in the financial services sector, with 5+ years in senior leadership roles in international settings, preferably in multiple regions, including Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia.
- Proven expertise in financial products, lending, building partnerships, and multi-stakeholder governance.
- Proficient in deal structuring, regulatory compliance, and financial principles.
- Strong project and portfolio management capabilities.
- Fluency in English.
- Strong alignment with Oikocredit’s mission and values.
