Investment Risk Officer
Oikocredit is looking for an analytical and impact‑driven Investment Risk Officer to strengthen our first-line risk capabilities within our global Impact Investments portfolio.
About the job
The Investment Risk Officer is responsible for strengthening first-line risk capabilities within Oikocredit’s Impact Investments framework, ensuring alignment with organizational policies and risk appetite.
This role involves primarily i) supporting Investment teams to identify and analyze key risks and mitigants of proposed investments, thereby contributing to sound and balanced investment decisions, and ii) leading the partner risk monitoring process to identify early warnings and preventive actions to safeguard the quality of Oikocredit’s investment portfolio.
The Officer is also involved in the revision of contract changes following delegated approval authority. The Officer plays a significant role in knowledge sharing and enhancing risk visibility among the Investments team, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives regarding investment risk policies, credit risk tools, and monitoring process.
Main responsibilities
Risk identification and deal structuring
Support Investments team in early stages of deal structuring while balancing impact, risk, and return.
Contribute to the strengthening of the investment proposal regarding the assessment of key risks and possible mitigants.
When required, vote and or participate in credit and/or equity committees, for example RACs or new partners, highly risky partners and rescheduling proposals.
Manage the Credit Risk Rating process and ensure the consistency of individual risk ratings with the risks identified during the credit assessment.
Portfolio monitoring
Analyze financial performance and trends in the investment portfolio to identify early warning indicators at country or sector level.
Produce timely and relevant and/or dashboards on local financial markets (SME or microfinance) to support risk assessment and portfolio monitoring.
Produce timely and relevant dashboards on trends of key commodity markets.
Produce other relevant ad-hoc reports as per business needs and/or specific requests on current and defaulted portfolio.
Partner monitoring
Analyze financial performance and trends in the investment portfolio to identify early warning indicators at partner level and recommend proactive risk mitigation actions in discussion with Investments team.
Propose borrowers for inclusion or removal from Partner’s Watch List
Follow up with Investment Officers on explanations and discuss action plans for any watch listed clients.
Policy implementation and improvement initiatives
Contribute to the design and/or revision of the credit risk management framework.
Contribute to the improvement of the credit risk rating tool.
Education, skills and experience
Degree in the field of finance, economics, business administration and/or similar. Any international certification is considered a plus.
Minimum 4-5 years of relevant experience in banking or impact investment institutions structuring deals and/or analysing credit and/or private equity proposals and/or assessing financial intermediaries or corporates as part of an international rating agency.
Specific knowledge and expertise in agribusiness, renewable energy and/or climate finance is considered an asset.
Former investments or credit experience in emerging markets is considered an asset.
Policy design and implementation and/or process improvement experience is desirable.
Fluency and full working proficiency in English is a must. Fluency in other relevant languages (French or Spanish) is considered an asset.
